Mission:

"To connect the people and institutions of Wheatland County to lay the base for sustained and balanced economic and community development."

Wheatland County, located in the heart of Montana at the cross roads of Highway 191 and Highway 12.  The area is surrounded by the Crazy Mountains, the Snowy Mountains and the Little Belt Mountains.  There is access to two National Forests within twenty miles of Harlowton, allowing for all types of outdoor recreation including ATVing, horseback riding, camping, hiking, fishing and hunting.  There are miles of mountain streams to fish and enjoy.  Martinsdale and Deadman’s Basin reservoirs provide fishing, boating, and other water recreation during the summer months.  Wheatland County is known for its abundant hunting opportunities.  An avid hunter could conceivably hunt for nine months out of the year!

Harlowton’s Central Avenue is lined with historic sandstone buildings.  Something about thriving businesses, theater, shops.

The community of Harlowton itself has plenty of recreation to offer.  The Jawbone Creek Country Club is a public nine hole golf course with fantastic views and friendly faces.  It is also the only golf course in the United States that has a cemetery in the middle of the course.  Chief Joseph Park is an oasis for travelers and residents alike.  The pond is stocked and everyone is welcome to throw in a line.  Adjacent to Chief Joseph Park is the Howard Holloway arena, rated as one of the best arena facilities in Montana.  The City of Harlowton operates a community swimming pool seasonally.  The Smoking Boomer Rail Trail is a one and a quarter mile loop from Chief Joseph Park to the Depot build on the old rail road right of way.  The trail is open to all types of non motorized transportation.  Wildlife and birds abound in the area and can easily be spotted from the trail and park.

Wheatland County is home of three outstanding Museums.   The Upper Musselshell Museum is part of the Montana Dinosaur Trail and has a casting of the first Avaceratops Lammersi found north of Shawmut on display.  The Marshall Building is home to all new displays featuring our local history.  The renowned Bair Museum is open for tours May 1- September 30, Wednesday thru Sunday.  This museum is a treat for all and is home to many one of a kind treasures.
